Miami Soccer Welcomes Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday Evening

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s soccer team (0-1) will host cross-state foe, Florida Gulf Coast (0-1), Tuesday, Aug. 25 at UM’s Cobb Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
The Hurricanes faced the No. 8 Florida Gators in their season-opener on Friday night, falling by a 1-0 score. The match’s lone goal came only three minutes after the break on an Ashlee Elliott header that was just out of the reach of Miami’s Vikki Alonzo.
In the contest, Miami and the Gators both registered 14 shots. Junior Brittney Steinbruch led the way for UM with four shots. Junior Lauren Singer had four shots as well, with Paulellete Ricks-Chambers and Jesscia Wyble firing two apiece.
The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles of the Atlantic Sun Conference fell to the UCF Knights in it’s season-opener on Friday night by a 2-0 score. Both UCF goals came in the second half, as thye put up a total of 20 shots on the Eagles. FGCU recorded five shots, with Jess Swartzentruber’s the only one on goal.
Tuesday’s match-up will be the first overall meeting between the two teams, with each looking for its first victory of the year.
Tickets will be on sale at the Cobb Stadium gate at $5 for adults and $3 for children.
