MIAMI FALLS TO BOSTON COLLEGE IN QUARTERFINALS

HARTFORD, Conn.-The No. 4 seeded Miami women’s basketball team fell to the No. 5 seed Boston College 65-53 in the quarterfinals of the 2004 BIG EAST tournament Sunday afternoon in Hartford, Conn.

The Hurricanes fall to 22-6, while BC improves to 23-6 overall. With the win over Miami BC will face top-seeded Connecticut Monday at 6 p.m.

Yalonda McCormick (Miami, Fla.) led Miami with 19 points and six assists, while Shaquana Wilkins added 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Boston College led 23-20 at halftime.

The Hurricanes led 31-29 with 16:08 remaining in the game. The Eagles went on a 13-6 run to take the lead and never trailed again.

Miami tallied more field goals than BC (24-to-21) but the Eagles went to the free throw line 23 times compared to only five times for UM.

Miami shot 40.0 percent for the game, while BC shot 45.7 percent.

The Hurricanes await a bid into the NCAA tournament; the selection show is Sunday, March 14 at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
