CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes practiced for approximately 90 minutes in full pads Monday morning at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus. The focal point of the workout began to shift toward preparations for Miami’s 2001 season opener with Penn State, now just 12 days away (Saturday, September 1 at 8 p.m.).

“We looked a little tired today for the first time,” UM head coach Larry Coker said. “I think some of the guys may be feeling a little sore and a little sorry for themselves. We just need to push through this. We need to come back this afternoon and put together a good practice.”

On the injury front, the Hurricanes had virtually a full complement of players available for the practice. Only offensive lineman Scott Puckett, out indefinitely because of a knee injury, missed the workout.

The Hurricanes conclude today’s work this afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. workout at the Greentree Practice Fields. Miami will end its preseason two-a-days on Tuesday with practices at 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. The evening workout on Tuesday will be a scrimmage at the Orange Bowl that is closed to the public.

Miami begins the 2001 season on Saturday, September 1, at Penn State in a nationally televised contest (ABC Sports). Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
