Hurricanes Play First Game At The Convocation Center

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami women’s basketball team will host No. 24/22 Boston College in its first game at the Convocation Center Wednesday Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.

The Hurricanes (11-3, 3-0 in the BIG EAST) are on an eight-game winning streak and a perfect 7-0 at home this season.

Boston College (10-3, 2-0) will be the second ranked opponent the Hurricanes face this season. Miami knocked off No. 16/17 Notre Dame, 80-70, in the Joyce Center Saturday afternoon.

The Convocation Center, a 7,000 seat multipurpose entertainment facility located on the Coral Gables campus, will host concerts, family shows, trade shows, lecture series, sporting events and Miami men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Several women’s basketball alumni will be in attendance for the historical event. Former players to include Kym Hope, Frances Savage, and Cassaundra Wimes.

Former Coaches in attendance will be Lin Dunn, Isabella Hutchinson, Ken Patrick, & Barry Schimer.

At halftime the basketball program will honor All-American Frances Savage by retiring her jersey.

Miami leads the all-time series 14-5 after knocking off then No. 18 BC, 60-57, Feb. 26 2002.

BIG EAST Rookie of the Week Tamara James continues to lead the Miami offense averaging 27.0 points and 8.7 rebounds in conference play.

Jessalyn Deveny also averages 27.0 points per contest in BIG EAST play for the Eagles.

FoxSports Net will air the game Thursday Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.

The game is broadcast live on WVUM (90.5 FM) or via the internet at hurricanesports.com.

Children under 12 are admitted for $1 when a full price adult ticket is purchased.
