Hurricanes Set to Compete at Head of the Hooch Regatta

Nov. 4, 2005

CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla. – The University of Miami rowing squad will compete in the 25th Annual Head of the Hooch Regatta that will take place Saturday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 6 in Chattanooga, Tenn. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

“Hurricane Wilma has certainly impacted our preparation for this race,” said head coach Debra Morgan. “However, our athletes are doing a great job picking right up where we left off.  We’ll be looking for strong performances in the eights, the singles, and the doubles.”

The Head of the Hooch, considered “the premier head race of the southeast”, is a 5000m (3 mile) head race on the Tennessee River ending at Ross’s LandingPark in Chattanooga. All boats are started sequentially and race against the clock. The Head of the Hooch is a USRowing registered regatta.

This year, an Atlantic Coast Conference trophy will be awarded. The trophy was reinstated because of the large number of ACC schools that attend the event. The ACC trophy will be awarded to the school with the highest point total and will include both men’s and women’s teams.

Fans can log onto hurricanesports.com, the Official Internet Home of Hurricane Athletics, for the up-to-date Miami rowing news and results. Head of the Hooch Regatta information and live results can also be accessed at www.headofthehooch.org
