Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team recorded its first win ever against No. 21 Boston College, 3-1, on Friday night at Cobb Stadium on the UM campus.

The Hurricanes improved to 5-3-0 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST. Boston College falls to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST play.

Miami fell early in the game, 1-0, on a misplayed ball in the penalty box resulting in an own goal for the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes found the equalizer seven minutes later on a shot by sophomore forward Britney Butcher, assisted by freshman forward Lindsey Yach and sophomore midfielder Jenna Johnson.

Senior midfielder Laura West scored the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute on a pass from junior midfielder Vonda Matthews, giving the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore forward Gitana Gotay iced the game, 3-1, scoring her first goal of the season in the 77th minute of play on a pass from Laura West.

Miami outshot the Eagles 12 to 11 and allowed only two shots in the second half.

Goalie Rachel Elsby scored the win for the Hurricanes, recording three saves on the evening.

The Hurricane continue BIG EAST play as they host Providence at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Cobb Stadium.
