SHUTOUT CITY
Today’s shutout marks the second of the season (Miami 61, Rutgers 0) and the third consecutive season in which Miami has shutout an opponent.

THE STREAKS CONTINUE
With today’s victory Miami extends its nation leading win streak to 17 games…UM also extended its home winning streak to 14 games dating back to 1999.

THIRD QUARTER DOMINANCE
With today’s 21 points in the 3rd quarter, UM has outscored opponents this season 114-7 during that period.

MIAMI PILING ON THE POINTS
Today’s game marks the ninth consecutive game in which the Hurricanes have scored 30 points ore more. When Miami scores 30 or more points in a game, the team has won 89 consecutive games, since dropping a 31-30 decision at Notre Dame in 1988.

SCORING FIRST WINS GAMES
When Miami scores first it is nearly a lock to win. With today’s victory, the Hurricanes have gone 149-14 when scoring first since 1983.

DORSEY OWNS THE RECORD
With his first quarter touchdown pass to Kevin Beard, Ken Dorsey assumes sole possession of first place on UM’s all-time career touchdown passes thrown list with 49. He finished the game with 2 TDs giving him 50 for his career.

MORE DORSEY NOTES
Dorsey was taken down for the first time this season. Previously the offensive line had gone 845 offensive plays before the sack …With 175 yards, Dorsey passed Jim Kelly (5,228) for 7th place on UM’s career passing yards. He now has 5,326 career passing yards and is 43 yards shy of Steve Walsh in 6th place with 5,369…Additionally Dorsey moved up to 7th place on the all-time pass completion list with 386…Dorsey also extended his school-record streak to 23 straight games with a TD pass, including bowls.

ED REED TIES RECORD
Senior free safety Edward Reed’s third quarter interception ties him for the school record with Bennie Blades (1984-87) on the all-time list with 19 picks.

CLINTON PORTIS REACHES 2,000
Junior running back Clinton Portis became the fifth Hurricane to reach the 2,000-yard milestone doing so in his 25th career game. He joins Edgerrin James (1996-98), Ottis Anderson (1975-78), James Jackson (1996-00) and Danyell Ferguson (1992-96) in this elite group.

MORE PORTIS NOTES:
Portis continues to climb the UM all-time rushing yardage list with 117 yards moving into 5th place with 2,002 career rushing yards. The all-time rushing leader is Ottis Anderson (1975-78) with 3,331 yards…His second quarter touchdown was his sixth rushing touchdown of the season and 18th overall in his career…With this 100-yard+ game, Portis ties Ottis Anderson (1975-78) for second place on UM’s all-time career list of 100-yard rushing performances with 13. He is one shy of Edgerrin James’ (1996-98) first-place record of 14.

FREDDIE CAPSHAW
Junior punter Freddie Capshaw’s 59-yard punt in the first quarter was the longest of the season. Previously the longest was 58-yards at Penn State during the first game of the season.

JEREMY SHOCKEY
His 6 receptions in the game (49 for the season) moves him into 6th place on the UM career tight end reception list behind current UM offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Rob Chudzinski (1988-90) who has 71 career receptions…Shockey passes Gerard Daphins (1993-96) and moves into 7th place on the UM career tight end reception yards list with 680 career yards.

FRANK GORE
Freshman running back Frank Gore’s 13-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter was the fourth of his season and career.

PHILLIP BUCHANON
His 52-yard punt return for a touchdown was his second of the season. The last time UM returned a punt for a TD was again Rutgers University on Sept. 8, 2001, a 56-yard punt return for a touchdown by Buchanon.

OTHER NOTES
The Miami defense only allowed 34 yards passing and 154 yards in total offense, both season lows…Sophomore defensive lineman Santonio Thomas recorded the first sack of his career…Todd Sievers successfully completed his 23rd field goal of his career… Brett Romberg left the game with an ankle sprain, but returned to action …Miami won the coin toss and deferred to the second half…Today’s attendance was 31,128.
