'Canes Coaches Honored At Miami Sol Opener

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Members of the Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball, volleyball andtennisprograms were honored for their outstanding performances during the2001-02season at half-time of the Miami Sol vs. Minnesota Lynx Opener onTuesday atthe AmericanAirlines Arena.

In the team’s inaugural season, head volleyball coach, Nicole Lantagneledher team to a 17-7 overall record. The Hurricanes volleyball teamrecordedeleven straight wins to end the season and posted a 16-1 winning recordathome. Hurricane Volleyball begins their second season on September 6thinthe Hurricane Invitational at the Knight Sports Complex.

Head women’s tennis coach, Paige Yaroshuk guided her team to a 14-7overallrecord. The Hurricane’s women’s tennis team captured the BIG EASTChampionship for the seventh time and were undefeated at home thisseason.Paige was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year and newcomer, Mari Toro wasnamedMost Outstanding Performer in the tournament. This year, Miami earned aberth in the 2002 NCAA Tennis Tournament, advancing to the second roundofaction.

Head coach Ferne Labati and members of the Hurricanes women’s basketballteam finished the season 19-12 advancing to the second round of the BigEasttournament championship. Hurricanes earned a bid into the post-seasonplaying in the WNIT as it advanced to the second round. The Hurricanesopennext season in a new on-campus arena and look forward to your continuedsupport of women’s athletics.
