Hurricanes Host Ball State in Third Straight Home Match

Aug. 27, 2009

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s soccer team will host the Ball State Cardinals Friday night in the third of UM’s season-opening five-game homestand. Game time at Cobb Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Hurricanes (1-1-0) are coming off a 3-0 victory against Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday night. Miami outshot the Eagles 13-8 in the contest and Barbara Blocker, Brittney Steinbruch and Beverly Goebel scored goals for the home team. Lauren Singer, Jessica Wyble and Ashlee Burt each had assists on the evening. The victory gave the `Canes their first win of the season after dropping a well-played home-opener to the No. 8 Florida Gators last Friday.

Ball State (0-0-0) is making its season debut against the Orange and Green. The Cardinals return seven starters and 12 players from their 2008 squad that went 9-10-1.

Friday’s match will be the first meeting between the two programs.

Tickets will be on sale at the Cobb Stadium gate at $5 for adults and $3 for children.
