Women's Soccer Shuts Out Providence 1-0

Providence, R.I. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami freshman midfielder Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.) scored the lone goal of the match in the 76th minute to propel the Hurricanes (8-3-0, 3-2-0 BIG EAST) to a 1-0 shutout over Providence (4-5-1, 0-4-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday at PC’s Glay Field.
At 75:13, Butcher took a pass from sophomore Michelle Provenzano (Davie, Fla.) on the right side and scored from 12 yards out past PC keeper Caroline Haines. The loss was Providence’ first at home this season and fourth straight overall for the Friars.
The Hurricanes outshot Providence 17-8 in the match and held the 8-3 advantage on corner kicks. Junior Elizabeth Swinson (Boca Raton, Fla.) made her first start in goal this season, playing all 90 minutes with four saves. Haines had six saves for Providence.
Miami will return to action on Friday, Oct. 12 against Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium on the UM campus. Providence will host Virginia Tech on Friday.
