Hurricane Women in Sports Day

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami Athletic Department will be hosting a women’s sports clinic for nearly 300 elementary and middle school girls on Friday, February 7th at the Knight Sports Complex and Cobb Stadium on the UM campus.

The clinic starts off with registration at 9 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 9:45 a.m. University of Miami head women’s basketball coach Ferne Labati along with UM administrators and student athletes will address the participants on the benefit of being involved in intercollegiate athletics and sports. Approximately 10:15 a.m. the group of 300 kids will be divided and rotated around the seven separate clinics, including basketball, volleyball, soccer, and rowing. The Hurricanes’ women’s sports coaching staffs will run each of the clinics.

Each of the participants will receive a gift-bag that includes a t-shirt courtesy of The Sports Society of Miami at registration commemorating the event. Gatorade will provide the beverages. The Big Cheese will cater a pizza lunch for the participants at noon.

University of Miami President, Donna E. Shalala, Marge Wessel, President of the Sports Society of Miami and Ferne Labati, Head Coach of the Hurricanes women’s basketball team will be the three keynote speakers.
