Coach Page

Assistant Coach Danielle Page was hired in April of 2024, joining head coach Tricia Cullop after a six-year stint on Cullop’s staff at the University of Toledo. Page not only brings experience on the coaching ranks with a highly-successful Toledo program but from her extensive professional playing career that has taken her throughout the world.

Six Years With Cullop at Toledo (2018-24)

In Page’s six years at Toledo, the Rockets went 133-58 overall and 78-34 in the Mid American Conference (MAC), going on to win three MAC Regular Season Championships and another conference tournament crown.

Page worked in all areas of the Toledo program, while focusing heavily on the post position. She also contributed in a big way in academic support and opponent scouting, earning a promotion to recruiting coordinator in April of 2023.

Toledo forged one of the best home-court advantages in the MAC, mid-major hoops and throughout the nation. In her final season at Toledo, the Rockets went 28-6 overall, 17-1 in league play and 15-1 at home. UT defeated Cleveland State and St. John’s in the first two rounds of the WBIT, leading the conference in nine statistical categories

Page worked heavily with post player Sammi Mikonowicz, a consistent force in the paint who averaged at least 8.0 points and 5.9 rebounds in all four seasons with the Rockets. Mikonowicz was tabbed to the 2024 All-MAC Third Team, surpassing 1,000-career points while finishing the campaign having started all 127 games in which she played.

The 2022-23 season was the second-straight year the Rockets reached 29 wins, tying the program record for wins in a single season. Among those wins were victories against nationally-ranked Michigan and five-seeded Iowa State in the NCAA Tournament. The Rockets got it done in the classroom as well, notching a program-record 3.687 team grade point average, bringing Toledo to 24-straight semesters of at least a 3.0 GPA. Forward Jessica Cook came up big for Toledo, being named to the MAC All-Tournament Team as a sophomore.

Page wrapped up the 2022-23 season by participating in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association *(WBCA) Inaugural Next Generation Institute. The following month she was tabbed co-head coach of the U20 Serbian National Team, coaching in the 2023 FIBA U20 European Championships.

Toledo was one of 10 programs to reach 29 wins in the 2021-22 season, with dominant rebounding adding to Toledo’s success. The Rockets paced the MAC in rebounding margin (+8.63) and defensive rebounds per game (29.57). Page followed the record-setting season by being named an assistant coach of the U20 Serbian National Team in the summer of 2022. Center Hannah Noveroske was tabbed MAC Sixth Player of the Year, posting 6.7 points per game and 4.1 boards per contest over 32 games. Cook was also named to the all-freshman squad.

Page’s first year with Toledo was filled with team and individual success as the Rockets broke the 20-win marker and tallied an 11-7 record in conference play. Toledo played to its seventh Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) under head coach Tricia Cullop, while leading the league in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense, three-point field goal percentage defense and fewest three-pointers permitted per game. Page helped coach Kaalya McIntyre and Mikaela Boyd to all-conference honors, while McIntyre also earned MAC All-Defensive Team laurels.

Page earned her coaching start at Colorado Premier Basketball Club, working with the U-13, U-14 and U-15 squads alongside former NBA player Keith Van Horn. A year prior to joining Toledo she helped with the coordination and communication of recruiting operations for the U-17 team.

An imposing post player, Page was a four-year member of the Nebraska women’s basketball team, helping the Cornhuskers to two NCAA Championship appearances. She finished as one of three players in program history to eclipse 200-career blocks before being picked up by the Connecticut Sun in 2008.

From there she began a decade-long professional playing career that took her all throughout the international side of the game. After earning her Serbian citizenship in 2015, Page qualified for the 2016 Olympics, taking home bronze in Rio de Janeiro.

Page earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a minor in psychology from Nebraska in 2008. A three-time academic all-conference student-athlete, Page added a master’s degree in kinesiology with a specialization in sport management from LSU in 2018.

Danielle Page is someone that I first learned about through Carol Callan, who would run USA Basketball. I was sitting in a board meeting at the Final Four and she sent me her résumé and mentioned that she just worked at our USA Basketball Camp and I think you’re really going to love her.

My first experiences with Danielle were on zoom interviews. At the end of the search I said you’ve never been on campus, you’ve never met me in person, but the job is yours if you want it.

She laughingly said, ‘coach, I’ll take it. I couldn’t believe that she had that much trust. She said that she’s taken pro jobs on less information. We’ve worked together for six years and her amazing positivity, energy and enthusiasm is contagious. She works her tail off but she also brings professional experience.

She played for ten years professionally, she is an Olympian and won a bronze medal in the Rio Olympics for Serbia. Because of that experience, and because of what they think of her, she is going to be the co-head coach of the Serbian national team this summer.

We are ecstatic that she is going to be helping develop our players here because I saw what an amazing effect her teaching had on the University of Toledo. We are thrilled that DP is joining us and I can’t wait for her to get started.
