Freshman (2008-09)
Saw most of her races in the backstroke and breaststroke events… Took part in four freestyle races, posting a third place time of 11:09.33 in the 1000 free against Central Connecticut State… Had a season-best mark of 5:21.00 in the 500 free at the Ohio State Invitational… Claimed a personal season-fast performance in the 100 back at the Ohio State Invite, pulling in a time of 1:01.80 in the finals… Almost equaled that time in the preliminary round with a time of 1:01.88… Registered a fourth place finish at FIU (1:06.00)… Registered her fastest 200 back time at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in the prelims with a mark of 2:13.51… Also had a personal-best mark at the ACC Championships in the 100 breast, touching the wall at 1:07.31… Best 200 breast performance came in the season-opener against ACC rival Florida State and Florida Gulf Coast, pulling in a 2:30.90 time… Finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.26 at FIU… Posted her fastest time on the year for the event at the ACC Championships (2:14.78)… Raced in one (1) 100 butterfly competition, finishing at 1:03.97 in a home dual race with cross-town foe FIU… Finished with a time of 26.40 against Florida Atlantic in the 50 free–her only 50 free event of the season…
High School/Prep
Head coach in high school was Jay Fitzgerald from Pine Crest… Attended Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School… Main events were the 100 breaststroke and butterfly… Collected a first place time (1:10) at the GMAC Championships… Finished first place in Districts as a senior in the 100 breast, and then second in the 100 butterfly (1:02)… Recorded school records in the 200 IM, 100 breast, as well as the 50 and 500 freestyle… Helped Dr. Krop to a District Championships in 2008… Collected District Championships honors during her junior season in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100 fly… Selected as a Miami Herald All-Dade First Team pick… Ended her career as the only Dr. Krop swimmer to earn back-to-back state championship qualifying times…

Born in Miami, Florida… Daughter of parents Tammy and Sylvain Van Embden… Majoring in Visual Journalism & Studio Art at Miami… Has two sisters, Talya (17) and Shae (15)… Plans on becoming a photo journalist… Says she chose to attend UM because of the incredible school spirit that can be found on campus…
