Ochiel Swaby

 Freshman guard, 6-6 ft., 180 lb…originally from Miami, Florida (North Miami). Swaby an excellent scorer with great leaping ability…enjoys going to the basket…a strong rebounder on both ends of the court…gives the ‘Canes a dangerous offensive threat, helping fill the hole left by Joe Wylie…signed a national letter of intent to attend Miami in the Spring 1991..joins Trevor Burton as the two current Hurricanes from Miami.

High School

Attended North Miami…led the nation in scoring by averaging an amazing 77.4 points per game, setting a new Florida record for averaging points in a season…also added 12.2 rebounds per game…high-point outing was a 64-point performance vs. Miami Pace…finished high school with 2,300 career points…was voted USA Today and Gatorade Player of the Year in Florida…finished second in the voting for Mr. Basketball in the state…was first-team-all-city in the Miami Herald…coached in high school by Owen Harris.

Started playing organized basketball after the seventh grade when he grew to 6’1’’…had an impression baseball collection that includes Roberto Clemente card…parents are Hermin and Donald Swaby …full name is Ochiel Loban Swaby…nickname is Oak…majors in business administration …born September 5, 1972.
