W. Tennis Shuts Out Syracuse

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (12-4, 8-2 ACC) defeated the Syracuse Orange (6-10, 2-7 ACC) on Friday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The doubles point was a battle as Miami’s Sebastianna Scilipoti and Raquel Gonzalez struck first at the top court, 6-2, over Anastasia Sysoeva and Nelly Knezkova. Syrcause fought back with a court three win from Leena Bennetto and Emma Scaladalai over Maria Vargas and Sofia Rocchetti, 6-4.

Court two’s Daria Volosova and Dominika Podhajecka clinched the doubles point, 7-6 (2) over Serafima Shastova and Monika Wojcik.

Miami dominated in singles, taking three straight. Volosova started it off on six with a 6-0, 6-1 win, followed by another 6-0, 6-1 win from Jaquelyn Ogunwale on court three. Aely Arai then clinched it on court four with a 6-4, 6-1 win.

The Hurricanes are back on Sunday to face Boston College.
