Hurricanes Drop Close Battle to Tar Heels
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (12-10, 4-7 ACC) dropped a 4-3 decision to the North Carolina Tar Heels (12-9, 5-6 ACC) on Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes started the match with the doubles point, despite court two’s Antonio Prat and Rafael Segado falling, 6-2, to Niels Ratiu and Chris Xu.
Nacho Serra Sanchez and Jules Garot then took court three, 6-2, over Ian Mayew and Logan Zapp, while No. 43 Jakub Kroslak and Mehdi Sadaoui clinched it at the top court, 6-4, over No. 34 Roan Jones and Anthony Wright.
In singles, Miami came out with the first win as No. 118 Serra Sanchez beat No. 58 Jones, 6-2, 6-0, on court two. UNC then took three straight for the lead on court one, three and six.
Segado tied it back at three on court four, taking down Ratiu, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, before Sadaoui fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to Djakouris on court five.
The Hurricanes are back on Sunday to face Duke at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
