Hurricanes Stay in Control Late to Claim Key 69-60 Win Against Cal

CORAL GABLES, Fla.— The Miami Hurricanes defeated the California Bears, 69-60 inside Watsco Center on Sunday afternoon.

Miami improves to 15–12 overall and 7–9 in ACC play, while California moves to 17–12 overall and 8–8 in conference action.

Miami had four players in double figures, led by Ra Shaya Kyle with a game-high 16 points. Gal Raviv followed with 14 points, Vittoria Blasigh added 12, and Ahnay Adams closed out the offensive effort with 10.

As a unit, Miami shot 50 percent from the field and 70 percent from the three-point line.

On the defensive end, Miami out-rebounded the Bears 40-36. Individually, Kyle led all players with 14 rebounds to record double-double No. 18 of the season.

The California Bears scored the game’s first basket and held a 3–0 lead through the opening three and a half minutes before Natalie Wetzel responded with a three-pointer at the 6:11 mark to tie the game. After the slow offensive start, Miami and the Bears traded baskets, with the score being knotted twice more before Cal edged ahead in the final minute of the period. Miami trailed 15–14 at the end of the first quarter, with six Canes already contributing points.

Miami opened the second quarter on a 9–0 run, shooting 80 percent from the field during that stretch to build its largest lead of the game so far at 23–15. Blasigh accounted for five of those points, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor. The Hurricanes pushed the margin to double digits at 27–17 before facing a four-minute scoring drought. Although the Bears attempted to close the gap, Miami kept its composure, with Adams scoring the team’s final five points of the half. The Hurricanes carried a 35–27 lead heading into the locker room.

California opened the third quarter with renewed energy, scoring six straight points to cut Miami’s lead to 35–33. Adams answered with a pull-up jumper to put the Miami Hurricanes back on the board. Miami then scored its next six field goals in the paint, but Cal continued to apply pressure, earning 14 trips to the free-throw line and shooting 50 percent from the field in the quarter. Despite the Bears’ push, Raviv knocked down a timely three-pointer late in the period to help Miami maintain control and carry a 54–46 lead into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter began as a back-and-forth battle, with both teams scoring four points apiece over the first five minutes to make it 58–50. Two of Miami’s points came from the free-throw line, while both of Cal’s baskets were driving layups. Once the Hurricanes tightened their defense inside the paint, their lead grew to double digits at 66–55 with three minutes remaining. From there Miami remained in control and solidified the win with a game finalizing block from Wetzel, solidifying the 69-60 home win.

The Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team will host the Pittsburgh Panthers at the Watsco Center on Thursday evening, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The game marks Miami’s final home contest of the 2025–26 regular season and will feature the team’s Senior Night celebration.
