W. Tennis Opens ACC Play Victorious
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (4-2) opened conference season with a 4-2 win against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-2) on Friday evening.
Miami fought to secure the doubles point despite dropping court two in doubles, 6-4. Within minutes, Daria Volosova and Maria Vargas won court three, 6-4, over Pozder/Matsuno, before Raquel Gonzalez and Dominika Podhajecka secured the doubles point, 7-5, against Molnar/Holod.
Volosova earned the straight-set win, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 6 spot against Rawles to extend the lead, before the Fighting Irish took court five over Podhajecka, 6-4, 7-5, to get on the board. Gonzalez, ranked No. 77, then put Miami within one with a top-court ranked win over No. 46 Molnar, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Notre Dame then won on court four over Aely Arai, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, before Sebastianna Scilipoti clinched the match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4) over Holod at the No. 3 spot.
The Hurricanes will travel to Louisville to face the Cardinals on Sunday.
