Five Hurricanes Reach Double Figures in 66–51 Victory Over Stanford
CORAL GABLES, Fla.— The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Stanford Cardinal, 66–51, on Thursday night inside the Watsco Center.
Miami improves to 14–12 overall and 6–9 in ACC play, while Stanford moves to 16–12 overall and 5–10 in conference action.
For just the second time this season, the Hurricanes placed five players in double figures, led by Gal Raviv’s game-high 19 points. Amarachi Kimpson followed with 14 points, Natalie Wetzel added 12, Ra Shaya Kyle recorded 11, and Ahnay Adams finished with 10 to round out Miami’s balanced scoring effort.
Defensively, Kyle led all players with 14 rebounds, accounting for nearly half of Miami’s 32 total boards. Her dominant performance on both ends secured her 17th double-double of the season.
As a unit, Miami shot 44.8 percent from the field and forced 17 turnovers on the Cardinals, while only being held to nine.
Raviv opened the scoring column for Miami with back-to-back pull-up jumpers, giving the Canes a 4-0 advantage in the first two minutes of play. Stanford responded, claiming the next four points to even the score at 4-4. After being tied the lead shifted five times with Miami pulling ahead in the final minute of the first quarter to hold a narrow 12-11 advantage.
Coming out for the second period Miami went on a 9-2 run to increase the lead to eight, 21-13. The offensive push was led by Wetzel with five of the nine points. Miami was also dominate on the defensive end, holding Stanford scoreless for just short of four minutes. At the conclusion of the second quarter, Miami outscored the Cardinals 17-9 to lead 29-20 at half.
Within the opening 12 seconds of the third quarter, Miami pushed its lead to double digits as Raviv knocked down a step-back jumper to make it 31–20. Stanford responded late in the period with a 7–0 run, cutting the deficit to five at 39–34. Miami answered quickly, as Kimpson hit a big time three-pointer, followed by Ra Shaya Kyle converting at the free-throw line to extend the Hurricanes’ advantage back to 10, 44–34. Stanford scored the final four points of the quarter in the paint, but Miami maintained control and entered the fourth quarter with a 44–38 lead.
Stanford posted the first bucket of the fourth period to get the score within four, 44-40. However, Miami responded instantly going on an 11-2 run to get the advantage back to double figures. The Canes stayed in front for the remainder of the game with Raviv recording seven of Miami’s final 22 points to defeat the Cardinals 66-51.
