M. Tennis Edges USF, 4-3

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (6-3) secured its sixth straight home win with a 4-3 win against the USF Bulls (1-6) at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hurricanes clinched the doubles point, earning wins on two courts before claiming singles victories on three courts to secure the team win.

Nacho Serra Sanchez and Antonio Prat defeated James Newton and Max Mroz on court two, 6-2, before Rafael Segado and Jules Garot clinched the opening point, 6-4, at court three against Stepan Mruzek and Timeo Gaillard.

When the point was clinched, Mehdi Sadaoui and Jakub Kroslak led Hugo Car and Ettore Danesi, 6-5, at the top court.

Prat, ranked No. 95, earned the ranked win, 6-1, 6-4, over No. 119 Car, while Garot on court six won 6-2, 6-3 over Gaillard to extend the lead. USF then tallied wins from Mruzek over Kroslak, 0-6, 7-5, 6-3, on court three, followed by a 6-4, 6-4 win from Danesi over Sadaoui.

Segado then clinched the match on court five, battling Newton for the 6-1, 7-6 (5) win. Down to court two, Serra Sanchez fought hard but fell 5-7, 5-7 to No. 112 Cham.

The Hurricanes are back Feb. 21 to host FGCU at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
