Hurricanes Pick Up Back-to-Back Wins
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (5-2) started the day with a 5-1 win over the Stetson Hatters, before closing out with a 4-1 victory over the Kennesaw State Owls (0-1) on Saturday.
Due to inclement weather, the match started in singles to avoid anticipated weather. No doubles play was set to take place if a team reached four points in singles.
Rafael Segado grabbed the automatic win after being up 6-4 from a retirement by Mihnea Maftei to put the Hurricanes up. No. 30 Antonio Prat then earned the dominant 6-1, 6-2 win against Alexandre Verlaguet, while Jules Garot earned his first win of the season with a 6-1, 7-6 (0) win over Marc Saura.
Nacho Serra Sanchez then clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Christian Kuehne at the No. 2 spot. Stetson tallied a point on the scoreboard from Xavier Sarda Marti over Jakub Kroslak on court three, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Closing out the match, Mehdi Sadaoui battled for the 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot.
Later that night, the Hurricanes faced the Owls. Prat and Sanchez paired up in doubles but fell, 1-6, to Hudson and Ducariu on court one, as Kroslak and Sadaoui dropped court two, 3-6, to Peranovic and Walters.
Sadaoui dominated court five 6-1, 6-1 against Walters, while Prat beat Weingarten, 6-2, 6-2, and Garot extended the lead on court six, 6-4, 6-1 over Ferrer. Finally, Serra Sanchez clinched it with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Peranovic.
The Hurricanes will face UCF on Feb. 6 in Orlando, Fla.
