Tippner’s Standout Performance Lifts Canes to 64-61 Victory at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—The Miami women’s basketball team was led by freshman, Meredith Tippner, securing a 19-point performance in the Hurricanes 64-61 victory over Wake Forest. The Thursday night victory marks Miami’s first ACC win and first true road win of the 2025-26 season.

Miami’s overall record now stands at 7–4, 1–1 ACC, and Wake Forest holds a 10–3, 1–1 ACC record.

Miami won the opening tip and scored the first basket of the game off an offensive rebound by Natalie Wetzel. Wake Forest responded with a 12–4 run to take control for most of the first quarter. The Hurricanes trailed for more than seven minutes before tying the game at 16–16 with two minutes remaining. Miami briefly went ahead 18–16, but the Deacons regained the lead to close out the quarter 20–18.

Wake Forest continued to pressure Miami’s defense, building its largest lead of the game at 30–22 (5:16). Blasigh then caught momentum from beyond the arc, draining back-to-back three-pointers to put Miami within one possession at 30–28 with 4:08 left. The Demon Deacons held the lead for the entire second quarter, but the Hurricanes stayed within reach, closing out the first half trailing 34-32.

The third quarter remained tightly contested as both teams continued to trade baskets. Wake Forest held a slight edge early, outscoring Miami 7–6 before the Hurricanes held the Deacons scoreless for four minutes. Miami capitalized on the momentum, taking a 45–43 lead with 1:20 remaining due to a Tippner three-pointer. The Hurricanes carried that energy in the final minute of the quarter, heading into the fourth with a 48–47 advantage.

Miami increased its advantage to three in the initial two minutes of the fourth, marking its largest lead of the game. Tippner was responsible for stretching the scoring margin in favor of UM, securing 12 of Miami’s last 14 points (7:02). The game was even once more at 54-54 before Blasigh hit her third three pointer to get the Canes back ahead at 57-54. Miami kept the three point lead until the final seconds of the game before closing out 64-61 in Winston-Salem.

The Miami Hurricanes will return home to the Watsco Center on Sunday, Dec. 21 for a noon tipoff against Kennesaw State. The non-conference matchup was slated to be aired on ACCN.
