Miami Falls 87-61 to NC State in ACC Opener

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s basketball team opened ACC play with an 87–61 loss to NC State. Although the Hurricanes had four players score in double figures, led by Vittoria Blasigh’s 22 points, they were outpaced by the Wolfpack in three of the four quarters.

Miami’s overall record now stands at 6-4, 0-1 ACC and NC State hold a 7-4, 1-0 ACC record.

Miami’s first points of the game came inside the paint with driving layups from Kyle and Kimpson. After posting four points Miami struggled on offense, going 2-of-10 from the field meanwhile NC State tallied 16 points prior to the first timeout (4:42). Following the media timeout Blasigh came off the bench and shot 3-3 from behind the arch to get Miami back within 10 (23-13). The Wolfpack maintained control of the first period, holding its largest lead of the quarter at 29-13 heading into the second period.

The Canes continued to face adversity on offense and were left scoreless from the field for more than seven minutes. Miami’s only two points prior to Blasigh’s pullup jumper with 2:13 on the clock were tallied on the charity stripe from Kimpson. The score stood at 48-17 in favor of NC State, before Kimpson hit a three ball to conclude the first half (48-20). Miami’s seven points in the second quarter marked its lowest scoring period of the season.

NC State secured the first basket of the second half, but Miami quickly responded with back-to-back buckets in the paint (50-24). Miami’s shots slowly started to fall, as they recorded their highest scoring period of the game with 19 points, shooting 50 percent from the field (8-16). Kyle led Miami on both ends with eight points and three rebounds. Going into the final period of play, the Canes trailed NC State 69-39.

Miami outscored the Wolfpack 22-18 in the fourth quarter, but after falling short in the three prior periods they were unable to close in on the scoring gap. Overall Miami shot 36.5 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 49-31 by NC State.

Miami will continue its ACC slate and head to Wake Forest on Thursday, Dec. 18, for a 6 p.m. tipoff against the Deacons. The game will be streamed on ACCNX and mark Miami’s first true road contest of the 2025-26 season
