Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Jai Lucas
Opening statement…
“It’s always good to get a win. The result is good, but the process of getting the result was not good.”
On why he was frustrated despite the win…
“We pride ourselves on being a defensive team, and tonight we were non-existent on the defensive end. You get a team that shoots the ball the way they did, it’s hard for any coach to be happy, even though you win by a large amount.”
On defensive breakdowns…
“We were stuck in the mud. Our rotations were slow. We struggled guarding the ball and keeping people in front. When you struggle to guard the ball, the ball gets in the paint, and once the ball is in the paint, anything can happen. They had a high number of paint touches, and that led to them making a lot of threes.”
Tre Donaldson, Guard, Senior
On setting the pace early and ball movement…
“My biggest thing as a point guard and as a leader is just knowing the team we have and trying to continue to keep that pace, because that’s playing fast and getting into our actions quickly. That’s been my emphasis for myself. Just trying to continue to do that. It’s been working really well for us, just continuing to do that, getting my guys open, and getting them in the spots where they need to be to make plays.”
On how important sharing the ball is…
“That just shows everybody going and giving everybody opportunities in the right places. I feel like that shows the ball being moved at the right time, where it’s supposed to be, and then just capitalizing and getting people the ball right.”
Ernest Udeh Jr., Center, Senior
On what the coaching staff wasn’t satisfied with…
“Just mentally staying aggressive. Like Tre said, it doesn’t matter who we’re playing — we’ve got to stick to what we do. Going into tonight’s game, there was an emphasis on attacking the paint. They’re one of the teams in the country that doesn’t really foul, so make sure we get to the line and use that to our advantage by being aggressive.”
On the defensive performance…
“Just playing hard. Taking care of what we’ve got to do, going into practice working on what we work on, and then coming out and playing to the level we’re supposed to play at.”
