Canes Fall Short to No. 24/25 Oklahoma State in 87-84 Cayman Battle

GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman. – Despite five players hitting double figures in scoring, The University of Miami women’s basketball team was defeated by No. 24/25 Oklahoma State 87-84 on Saturday Morning in the final game of the Cayman Islands Classic.

Miami now holds an overall record of 5-2, 0-0 ACC and Oklahoma State stand sat 8-1, 0-0 Big 12.

As a unit, Miami was led in scoring by Gal Raviv with her second consecutive 20+ point outing. Raviv posted 21 points, followed by Amarachi Kimpson with 17. Ra Shaya Kyle led on the boards with 13 rebounds to go along with her 11 points, recording her fourth double-double of the 2025-26 season.

Kimpson set the tone early for Miami going 3-3 from beyond the arc, posting nine of the Canes first 13 points. UM took the first lead of the matchup before the Cowgirls pulled ahead at 11-10 (5:29). From there, Miami trailed for the remainder of the first period with the score standing at 21-17 in favor of Oklahoma State entering the second period.

Miami regained the lead in the first minute of the second quarter at 22-21 and quickly extended the margin to seven with six minutes left in the first half (31-24). The Canes were shooting 53.8 percent (7-13) from the field for the first eight minutes of the second period to maintain a steady advantage. The Canes largest lead of the game stood at 42-31 going into halftime.

In the first half of play Kimpson played a large role in Miami’s offensive efforts, shooting 100 percent across the board (5-5 FG), (3-3 3FG), and (2-2 FT) to post 15 points. On the defensive end, Kyle brought in 10 of Miami’s 16 rebounds. The Canes were shooting 50 percent (16-32) from the field at halftime with five Canes contributing to the scoreboard.

Natalie Wetzel hit a three-point jumper off an assist from Ahnay Adams, her fourth of the game, extending the lead to a game high 14 (45-31). The Cowgirls then found a second wind, going on a 16-4 scoring run to steal the advantage from Miami at 47-46 (4:24). Miami’s scoring freeze for upwards of five minutes resulted in Oklahoma State getting back into the contest and leaving Miami with only a one-point advantage (61-60) heading into the final period of play.

The final 10 minutes of play was a back-and-forth battle between the ranked Cowgirls and the Canes. The score was a one-point game for upwards of five minutes until Oklahoma State pulled ahead with three minutes left on the clock. Oklahoma State took its largest lead of the game at 84-76 with 1:48 to go and kept the advantage for the remainder of play to close out at 87-84.

The Canes will return to action at home on Dec. 3, inside Watsco Center for the 2025 ACC-SEC Challenge. Miami will welcome Kentucky for a Wednesday night tipoff at 5 p.m. and the game will be aired on ESPN2.
