Miami Dominates Hofstra by 35 points in Home Opener

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team (1-0) opened up the 2025-26 season defeating Hofstra 83-48 on Thursday evening at Watsco Center. Miami shot 43.7 percent from the field and forced 23 turnovers on Hofstra to earn the 35-point home victory over the Pride (0-1).

Offensively, Miami was led by Ra Shaya Kyle with 13 points followed by Ahnay Adams with 12. On the defensive end, Jessica Peterson was a dominant presence, bringing in eight of the Canes 46 rebounds.

To start, Hofstra opened the scoring column in the first 10 seconds of play with a three-point jumper. From there it was a back-and-forth battle for the initial five minutes until Vittoria Blasigh clocked into the game, shifting Miami’s momentum. Blasigh hit back-to-back three-point jumpers, giving Miami its largest lead of the first quarter at 16-10.

From there the Canes quickly extended its lead, posting an additional 19 points across four players in the second quarter. Miami also forced seven turnovers on Hofstra to boast the largest lead of the first half at 37-20 with 3:45 left in the second quarter.

Coming out of the locker room at half, Miami buried four of its next five field goal attempts to build a 20-point lead over the Pride (46-26). The Canes then followed up with a 9-0 run to close out the third quarter. The offensive run was led by Kyle, posting five of the nine points, while Meredith Tippner tallied the other four. Heading into the final 10 minutes of play, Miami held a 33-point lead at 67-34.

Miami proceeded to post 16 points in the fourth quarter and hold Hofstra to a field goal percentage of 33.3. The Canes also brought in a game high 18 rebounds in the fourth quarter to convert for 12 points and solidify the 83-48 home win.
