Hurricanes Secure Five Wins At ITA All-American Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Four Hurricanes on the University of Miami women’s tennis team wrapped up their at the ITA All-American Championships at the Cary Tennis Park.

Sophomore Aely Arai highlighted Miami’s time there as she won three straight in the prequalifying draw to earn access into the qualifying draw.

The Osaka, Japan, native took down two conference foes on her way to advance, earning wins against Virginia Tech’s Mila Mulready and Wake Forest’s Krystal Blanch. She ultimately fell in the first round of qualifying to a ranked player in three sets.

Senior Raquel Gonzalez started her trip automatically in the qualifying draw, but fell in the first round. She followed it up with her first win of the fall in the consolation round, taking down No. 119 Kira Matushkina from Old Dominion.

Returning sophomore Jaquelyn Ogunwale opened her time with a first round win in the prequalifying draw, while newcomer Sebastianna Scilipoti fell in a hard-fought battle to 21-seeded Daneila Piani of South Carolina.

Ranked No. 81 in doubles, Ogunwale and Scilipoti had a tough start to the fall, dropping both their matches.

The Hurricanes are back Oct. 3 when they head to the Bedford Cup in Jacksonville, Fla.
