Miami Drops 4-3 Battle with No. 28 Stanford

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (8-8, 3-4) fell 4-3 to the No. 28 Stanford Cardinal (12-4, 5-5) on Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes dropped the doubles point, followed by only securing three singles wins to come up just short.

Stanford’s No. 22 duo of Connie Ma and Valerie Glozman took the top court 6-0 over Alexa Noel and Jaquelyn Ogunwale, before Maria Vargas and Raquel Gonzalez dropped court two, 7-5, to Valencia Xu and Caroline Driscoll.

Court three in singles finished in retirement from Stanford’s Xu after she fell 6-1 to No. 109 Gonzalez, before No. 63 Noel earned a strong 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 6 Glozman for her highest ranked win of the season to take the lead.

The Cardinal then took the lead back after Caroline Driscoll secured the 6-3, 6-0 win against Aely Arai on four and No. 16 Ma grabbed the 7-6 (6), 6-0 victory against Ogunwale on court two. Volosova tied it back up on court six after a 6-3, 6-3 win over Morgan Shaffer.

The Hurricanes are back on Sunday, March 30 when they host Cal at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
