
Miami Falls To SMU
DALLAS, Texas – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (8-7, 3-3) fell 4-2 to the SMU Mustangs (9-10, 3-5) on Sunday afternoon.
The Hurricanes fell short of the doubles point, followed by only securing two singles courts.
The No. 25 duo of Xinyi Nong and Raquel Gonzalez fell 6-1 to Sophie Llewellyn and Caroline McGinley at the top court, before Jaquelyn Ogunwale and Aely Arai dropped court three, 7-6, to Kayla Schefke and Arianna Stavropoulos.
SMU opened singles with a win on court two from Drew Morris over Ogunwale, 6-3, 6-0, but Gonzalez, ranked No. 109, got Miami on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Ellie Pittman. No. 63 Alexa Noel then tied it up with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Llewellyn at the top court.
Volosova then fell on court six, 1-6, 6-2, 2-6, to Cameron McGinley before SMU’s Stavropoulos clinched the match, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0, over Arai on court four.
The Hurricanes are back on March 28 when they host Stanford at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
