
Hurricanes Shutout No. 23 Notre Dame
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (6-5, 2-1) earned its first top-25 win of the season after shutting out the No. 23 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (12-3, 2-2), 4-0, on Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Playing in their fourth match of week, the Hurricanes secured its fourth straight win after claiming the doubles point and three consecutive singles courts.
Raquel Gonzalez and Xinyi Nong finished first after battling for the 6-4 win over Carrie Beckman and Maria Olivia Castedo at the top court, before Alexa Noel and Maria Paula Vargas clinched the doubles point once again, 6-4, over Bianca Molnar and Akari Matsuno on court two.
Noel dominated No. 64 Matsuno, 6-0, 6-3, at the top court, before Ogunwale extended the lead following a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Molnar on court two. Clinching the win on court five, Arai secured the 6-1, 6-4 victory over Beckman.
The Hurricanes are back Sunday, March 16 when they host Louisville.
