
Hurricanes Secure 4-3 Win Over Penn
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (5-5, 1-1 ACC) defeated the Penn Quakers (5-7, 0-1 Ivy), 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes secured their third win of the week after notching the doubles point and battling for three singles wins.
Raquel Gonzalez and Xinyi Nong finished first after a quick 6-1 win over Esha Velaga and Lara Stojanovski at the top court, before Alexa Noel and Maria Paula Vargas clinched the doubles point, 6-3, over Gavriella Smith and Liza Tkachenko on court two.
Noel picked up the first singles win, 6-1, 6-1, over No. 77 Velaga at the top court, before Nong extended the lead following a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Tkachenko on court five.
Penn then tallied a point on court six from Urata over Vargas, 6-3, 6-3 before Miami’s Ogunwale clinched the match, 6-3, 6-4, on court two over Wang. The Quakers then earned back-to-back wins with Stojanovski defeating No. 95 Gonzalez fell 4-6, 7-6 (6), 1-0 [10-8] on court three and Smith taking down Arai, 7-5, 6-3, at the No. 4 spot.
The Hurricanes are back Friday, March 14 when they host No. 23 Notre Dame.
