Miami Dominates Kennesaw State, 6-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (1-4) took the 6-1 win over the Kennesaw State Owls (1-4) on Wednesday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes grabbed the doubles point before securing five singles courts for their first victory of the season.

Aely Arai and Jaquelyn Ogunwale dominated Laura Nadaska and Che Nel, 6-2, on court three before Raquel Gonzalez and Xinyi Nong clinched the doubles point, 6-3, over Ema Baraniakova and Sofia Madrid.

Ogunwale earned the first singles win of the day after an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win over Madrid on court two, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Izabelle Persson, at the No. 4 spot.

Maria Paula Vargas then clinched the match for Miami after a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win over Nadaska. Kennesaw State earned a point after Daria Volosova reitred her court despite being up 7-6 (0), 6-6 (5-2) to Nel on court six.

The final two courts played out as Arai took down Sophia Unger, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, on court three, while No. 68 Gonzalez secured the 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory against Baraniakova at the top court.

The Hurricanes are back on the court Feb. 28 when they face Syracuse on the road to open ACC play.
