Miami Takes Down USF, 5-2

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (4-2) earned the 5-2 win against the USF Bulls (3-1) at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

The Hurricanes clinched the doubles point, earning wins on all three courts before claiming singles victories on four courts to secure the team win.

Junior Nacho Serra Sanchez and sophomore Leonardo Dal Boni defeated Hugo Car and Tom Pavlekovich Smith on court two, 6-4, before senior Martin Katz and junior Antonio Prat clinched the opening point, 6-4, at the top court against Elijah Cham and Stepan Mruzek.

Following the doubles point, freshmen Mehdi Sadaoui and Jules Garot took down Ben Hudson and Ettore Danesi, 6-3, on court three.

Dal Boni was first to finish, taking down Gughi Verdese on court four, 6-2, 6-3, before Sanchez followed it up with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Danesi on court three.

Antonio Prat then clinched the match on court two after picking up a ranked win over No. 114 Cham, 6-0, 7-5. USF then pulled out two wins to tally points on the board when Mruzek earned a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Garot and Hudson took down Sadaoui, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 [12-10].

No. 51 Katz then claimed the top court win over Car, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 [10-6] to close out the match, 5-2.

The Hurricanes are back next Friday, Feb. 7 to host UCF at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
