GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (0-4) dropped the 4-3 rivalry match to the No. 25 FIU Panthers (2-1) in the consolation round of ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.

Raquel Gonzazlez and Maria Paula Vargas defeated Oyinlomo Quadre and Anja Draskovic, 6-3, before Savannah Webster and Aely Arai clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Ekaterina Khairutdinova and Valery Gynina.

FIU evened the score after the 6-3, 6-1 win from Khairutdinova over Ogunwale at the top court. Gonzalez then gained the lead back for the Hurricanes after a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win over Gynina on court, followed by another 6-2, 6-2 victory from Vargas on court five over Draskovic.

Despite being one win away, FIU went on to take the remaining courts for the win. Quadre won 7-5, 6-4 against Arai, Drame defeated Webster, 6-4, 7-6 (5) and Mandelikova pulled out the 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 win over Volosova.
