Hurricanes Suffer Shutout from No. 22 LSU
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (0-3) fell, 4-0, to the No. 22 LSU Tigers in the first round of ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
The match opened with only two doubles courts, due to only five eligible players taking the court for the Hurricanes. Savannah Webster and Aely Arai fell, 6-2, to Tilwith Di Girolami and Anita Sahdiieva on court two to secure LSU the doubles point.
Raquel Gonzalez and Maria Paula Vargas were up 5-2 on Cadence Brace and Kayla Cross at the top court.
Vargas fell, 1-6, 4-6, on court four to Sahdiieva, followed by a 1-6, 2-6 loss from Arai against Di Griolami at the No. 3 spot.
Jaquelyn Ogunwale was down 2-6, 4-3 to Brace at the top court, No. 70 Gonzalez was down 4-6, 1-5 to Cross on court two and Webster was nearing a set two win, 2-6, 5-3, over Kinaa Graham on court five.
LSU secured the win to advance, while Miami will have a rematch with No. 25 FIU tomorrow in the consolation round at 11 a.m.
