Get To Know The Canes: Lynn Kidd
Graduate student Lynn Kidd transferred to Miami in the summer of 2024 for his final season of collegiate basketball.
The 6-10, 235-pound center brings a wealth of ACC experience to the Hurricanes as he spent his freshman year at Clemson and the last three seasons at Virginia Tech.
Get to know a little bit more about Lynn Kidd:
MiamiHurricanes.com: What was your first memory of picking up a basketball?
Lynn Kidd: “Probably with my dad playing the driveway. I’ve been playing for as long as I can remember, since I was a baby.”
MH: Who was your biggest influence growing up?
LK: “My dad. I used to work out with him when I was younger. He played professional overseas and one year in the league.”
MH: What motivates you to work hard every day?
LK: “I love what I do. I love to work out and I love to play basketball, so it really is just being excited every day to come here and work.”
MH: What is your mentality every time you step on the court?
LK: “Put the team first. The ultimate goal is to win.”
MH: What drew you to Miami for your final season of collegiate basketball?
LK: “Coach L, the playing style and the really good guys, like Matt and Nijel, who were staying. The city is gorgeous and it’s a great place to be.”
MH: What was the highlight of summer workouts?
LK: “I just liked working out with the guys in the weight room and stuff like that. There were some days that were really hard, but going through something that was really tough made us stronger and closer. I enjoyed it.”
MH: What are your goals for the upcoming season?
LK: “I want to go to the [national championship] and win the whole thing. That’s my goal. That’s what I came here for. I really just want to win and go as far as we can.”
MH: How can you serve as a leader on the team?
LK: “I try to tell the younger guys things that I would want to hear and things that I struggled with when I was younger. I want to try and guide them the best I can. The older guys did that for me, so [I am] trying to return the favor and guide them the best I can.”
MH: What motivates you to be the best?
LK: “I see my younger self and I don’t know if I ever thought I was going to be this good and get this far. Seeing my younger self, he would be so proud of me, so I just have to keep going.”
MH: What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
LK: “Trust it. Trust the process. Don’t get discouraged with it. Your time is going to come, just keep going.”
