W. Tennis Falls to Florida State in ACC Quarterfinals
CARY, N.C. – The sixth-seeded University of Miami women’s tennis team (11-7, 8-4 ACC) fell, 4-1, to third-seeded Florida State (16-7, 9-4 ACC) in the ACC Championship quarterfinals on Friday night at the Cary Tennis Park.
The Seminoles put up a strong performance to open the match, claiming the doubles point with wins on court one and two. In a top-30 matchup, FSU’s No. 27 Vic Allen and Millie Bissett struck first and delivered a 6-1 win over No. 29 Isabella Pfennig and Xinyi Nong at the top court. To secure the advantage going into singles, No. 67 Anna Arkadianou and Ellie Schoppe took down Antonia Balzert and Leonie Schuknecht, 6-2, at the No. 2 court.
Audrey Boch-Collins and Alexa Noel were down 4-3 to Laura Putz and Cade Cricchio on court three when play was halted.
Florida State secured the first singles win, with Millie Bissett defeating Leonie Schuknecht, 6-3, 6-3, on court four. Isabella Pfennig, ranked No. 63, claimed her second highest ranked win of the dual season with a 6-4, 6-4, win against No. 33 Ellie Schoppe on court two to put up a point for Miami.
On court three, Anna Arkadianou (FSU) took down Antonia Balzert, 6-4, 6-3, before No. 28 Vic Allen clinched the win for the Seminoles after a 6-3, 7-5 win over No. 11 Alexa Noel at the top court.
No. 108 Audrey Boch-Collins was down 4-6, 3-1 to Kristyna Lavickova on court five and Xinyi Nong was down 4-6, 5-4 to Laura Putz at the No. 6 court.
