Miami Falls 4-3 To VCU
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team fell 4-3 to VCU on Sunday afternoon.
Miami (7-3) clinched the doubles point to start off the match over VCU (5-4). VCU’s Oscar Pinto Sansano and German Samofalov claimed the first court, 6-3, over No. 27 Vladislav Melnic and Adrien Burdet. Miami answered with a win on court two from Nacho Serra Sanchez and Sam Baumgartner taking down Romain Gales and Matisse Bobichon, 7-6 (2).
Coming down to the last court, Martin Katz and Antonio Prat defeated Mathis Bondaz and Hamza El Amine, 7-6 (7), on court three.
Going into singles, VCU secured the first two courts. Bondaz took down Katz, 6-2, 6-0, on court one, while Sansano defeated Melnic, 7-3, 6-3, on court two.
The Hurricanes responded with back-to-back court wins to get the 3-2 lead. Burdet beat Piombo, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot to tie it, while Serra Sanchez claimed court five, 7-6 (5), 6-0, against El Amine.
With the victory on the line, everything came down to court two. Despite dominating the first set, Prat fell to Gales, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The team is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 28, as they travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to open ACC play against Boston College.
