Miami Opens ACC Action With Ranked Win Over No. 15 Duke

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team claimed the 5-2 win in its first ACC match of the season on Friday afternoon against No. 15 Duke.

The Hurricanes (3-2 overall, 1-0 ACC) started strong, taking the doubles point. On court one, Xinyi Nong and Isabella Pfennig took down Emma Jackson and Karolina Berankova, 6-1. Miami secured the opening point with a 6-3 score from Alexa Noel and Audrey Boch-Collins over Brianna Shvets and Iuliia Bryzgalova.

With the doubles point clinched, court two played out where Antonia Balzert and Leonie Schuknecht won 6-4 against Shavit Kimchi and Katie Codd to sweep the doubles portion.

Miami claimed three consecutive courts to clinch the match. First, No. 101 Boch-Collins defeated No. 109 Brianna Shvets, 6-4, 6-2, while No. 67 Pfennig took down No. 80 Kimchi, 6-4, 6-2. To secure the Miami win, Balzert claimed court three, 6-1, 6-4, over No. 76 Codd.

Duke took back-to-back courts with Jackson claiming the top court, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0, over No. 10 Noel and Bryzgalova took court four, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, against Schuknecht.

Nong finished off the match with a win on court six, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, over Berankova.

The Hurricanes are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 25 as they host No. 5 North Carolina.
