Miami Earns 4-3 Win Over USF
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team secured the back-and-forth 4-3 battle over USF on Thursday afternoon.
The match started tight, with the doubles point coming down to the last court. The No. 30 pair of Vladislav Melnic and Adrien Burdet took down No. 17 Alvin Tudorica and Erik Grevelius, 6-3, at the top court. USF bounced back on court three, with Bruno Oliveira and Ben Hudson defeating Martin Katz and Nacho Serra Sanchez, 6-4.
On court two, both doubles teams battled to a tiebreak. Miami’s Antonio Prat and Sam Baumgartner secured the opening point with a 7-6 (5) win over Tom Pavlekovich-Smith and Agustin Cuellar.
Going into singles with the advantage, the Bulls didn’t let up. Miami took the first singles win on court four from Prat over Pavlekovich-Smith, 7-5, 6-3.
USF went on to take the lead with three straight courts. No. 35 Tudorica defeated Melnic at the top court, 7-5, 6-0, while Elijah Cham took down Baumgartner on court six, 7-5, 6-2. Then, Bruno Oliveira claimed the 6-3, 6-1 win over Burdet.
Serra Sanchez tied the match up with a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Tom Pisane on court five. To win the match for the Hurricanes, Katz battled in three sets to win court two over Grevelius, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-0.
The Hurricanes will return to action on Feb. 11 when they travel to Orlando, Fla., to play UCF.
