Miami Opens Season With Victory Over Georgia Southern
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team kicked off the 2024 campaign with a 5-0 win over Georgia Southern on Friday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes grabbed two court wins to secure the doubles point. Graduate student Vladislav Melnic and sophomore Antonio Prat were the first pair to win at the top court with a 6-2 win over Pol Del Castillo and Dimitris Paliouras.
Junior Martin Katz and senior Adrien Burdet then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court two against Judson Blair and Aaron James Williams. When play was halted, newcomer Sam Baumgartner and sophomore Nacho Serra Sanchez were down 5-4 to Mouesca and Mitchell.
Going into singles with the advantage, Burdet took the first win on court four with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Castillo. Serra Sanchez then followed it up with a court-five win, taking down Blair 6-4, 6-1.
To clinch the match and the first win of the season for Miami, Baumgartner took down Calac, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 6 spot.
Katz was down 4-6, 3-2 to Paliouras on court two and Prat was tied 3-6, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot with Mouesca.
The Hurricanes are back into action Saturday, January 13 to face Wisconsin.
