Lopez Named ACC Freshman of the Week
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Grace Lopez was named ACC Freshman of the Week. the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday afternoon.
The recognition comes after Lopez helped lead Miami (12-6) to ranked sweep over No. 11 Georgia Tech and showed out big against Clemson.
From Aguada, Puerto Rico, the freshman tallied 39 kills, 18 digs and 40.5 points in total to earn the attention from the NCAA, highlighting her as a Big-Time Performer. Against Clemson, Lopez recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs, along with a block for 17.5 points.
With the Canes’ first ranked win of the season over No. 11 Georgia Tech, Lopez guided her team to a dominant win by earning 22 kills on a .309 hitting percentage and seven digs for 23.0 points in three sets.
In the conference, Lopez ranks third in kills per set (3.66) and fourth in points per set (4.12) to lead the team in both categories.
The weekly honor marks Lopez’s first career accolade and Miami’s seventh of the season.
The Hurricanes will return home to face Syracuse and Boston College on Oct. 20 and 22, respectively.
