Dear Canes Community,

I hope everyone had a terrific holiday weekend, one that featured our football, soccer, volleyball and cross country teams all in action. The Canes are off and running!

Football Wins Opener

Our football team kicked off its season with a convincing, 38-3 win over Miami (Ohio) at Hard Rock Stadium. The offense rushed for 250 yards and the defense turned in an impressive performance, keeping the RedHawks out of the end zone and holding them to just 51 yards on the ground. It was a great all-around team victory in front of an enthusiastic opening night crowd!

Let’s Pack Hard Rock

Next up for the Canes is a big home game Saturday against Texas A&M, the first SEC opponent to visit Hard Rock in 10 years. It’s a terrific opportunity to showcase our gameday atmosphere in front of a national television audience. We will also be honoring our 1983 national championship team on the 40th anniversary of their historic season. Tickets are still available so click here to secure your seats or call 1-800-GO-CANES. This is a great way to introduce friends and family to Canes Football. We can’t wait to see you cheering on the Canes Saturday!

Name, Image & Likeness

Name, Image & Likeness opportunities can help all Miami student-athletes maximize the value of their brand and learn valuable entrepreneurial skills during their time at UM.

You can support our student-athletes by contributing to the Canes Connection collective, which is rapidly building valuable partnerships with local businesses and connecting those businesses with our student-athletes. Canes Connection is working together with our athletic department to deliver an exceptional NIL program that will help us build championship programs and create the best student-athlete experience in college athletics. Fall Sports Update

Our volleyball team ran its record to 3-1 this past weekend with a 3-0 win over Troy. The Canes next travel to Madison, Wisc., Friday to face the top-ranked Badgers on their home court. Soccer lost a tough, 2-1 decision at Mississippi State Sunday. Our cross country team turned in a solid performance at the season-opening FAU Invitational, with the women’s team placing first and the men’s team finishing in second place.

Atlantic Coast Conference Expansion

The Atlantic Coast Conference last week announced the addition of Southern Methodist University, Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley, beginning in July 2024.

We join our ACC brethren in welcoming all three institutions to the ACC. They are all outstanding institutions — located in our country’s two most populous states – and will enhance our conference’s academic reputation, competitive excellence, financial strength and geographic footprint.

Basketball Non-Conference Slate

Last week we released our men’s and women’s basketball non-conference schedules, which features several exciting matchups at Watsco Center. Our men’s squad opens at home against NJIT on November 6, and is also participating in the Baha Mar Bahama Hoops Championship, the NABC Brooklyn Showcase and the ACC/SEC Challenge, where the Canes will face Kentucky at Rupp Arena on November 28. Our women’s team opens at home against Jacksonville on November 9, travels to Mississippi State for the ACC/SEC Challenge and battles Baylor in the Hall of Fame College Series in San Antonio. Click here to secure your season tickets for both teams!

NCAA Woman of the Year

Lauryn Harris from our track and field team is one of two ACC nominees for the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year. Lauryn graduated from Miami with Magna Cum Laude status with departmental honors in political science and won the inaugural 2023 Ibis Award, the highest student-athlete honor given for accomplishments not only in competition, but in the community and classroom. She has recorded six straight semesters with a perfect GPA and was named to the 2023 Outdoor All-ACC Academic Team. She is also the co-president of UM’s Black Student-Athlete Alliance and the 2022 ACC Unite Award winner. Congratulations to Lauryn!

Our Canes Community remains stronger than ever thanks to your continued support. Go Canes!
