Miami Drops Road Match at NC State, 4-2

RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (8-5, 0-3 ACC) came up short, 4-2, at No. 32 NC State (9-4, 3-0 ACC), Friday evening in Raleigh, N.C.

NC State stuck first, tallying a pair of victories on courts one and two to clinch the doubles point. Both Miami doubles duos fell, 3-6, in their respective matches, while the third doubles pair of Franco Aubone and Martin Katz was down 4-5 at the time of clinching.

No. 44 Dan Martin recorded his third ranked win of the spring season, taking down No. 77 Rafa Izquierdo Luque, 6-1, 6-2, on court one to tie the match at one-all.

The Wolfpack responded with back-to-back singles victories as graduate student Leo Bierbaum and sophomore Martin Katz fell at fourth and third singles, respectively.

Freshman Antonio Prat pulled the Hurricanes back to within one, 3-2, with a three-set 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 win over Braden Shick on court two.

The match was ultimately decided on court five where fifth-year senior Juan Martin Jalif fell to Fons Van Sambeek, 4-6, 4-6.

At the time of clinching, fifth-year senior Franco Aubone was trailing, 4-6, 4-4 on court six.

The Hurricanes remain in the state of North Carolina to take on the No. 14 Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Sunday. First serve in Winston-Salem, N.C., is set for 11 a.m.
