Mulcahy and Waddle Announce Novice Additions to the Varsity Squad
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – On Monday, University of Miami head rowing coach James Mulcahy and assistant coach Madison Waddle announced the addition of 11 novice rowers to the varsity squad.
“Walk-ons are a vital part of our team and always will be, so it’s really exciting to have such a great group of new athletes joining our varsity group for the spring season,” Mulcahy said.
The new additions to the team include Katherine Aguero, Lauren Bricca, Isabella Debling, Trinity Ferebee, Ava Goldman, Haley Gross, Rebecca Lacy, Amelie Salum Rapetti, Clara Steuer, Nicole Wyszynski, and McKenzie Zapata.
“I am extremely excited to see how our novices grow this spring. They’ve spent their entire fall season working on their technique on the water and their rowing fitness,” Waddle said.
The novice rowers hail from all over the country, including Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Texas. Each of the novice rowers have an athletic background, having competed on varsity sports and travel teams throughout their high school career.
“Not only have they shown us how valuable they can be in an athletic sense, but they’ve also shown how their positive attitudes and excitement for the sport can add to the rhythm and drive of our current varsity squad,” Waddle said.
“Coaches Madison and Laura did a great job not only teaching them the basics of the sport, but also what it means to be a Miami Hurricane, and we’re all very excited to see the impact they will make on the team this year and going forward,” Mulcahy said.
Miami will kick off their spring slate on March 4 in their home state at Stetson.
