Arreaga Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kevin Arreaga punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday.
With his season-best throw of 68.89m in the hammer throw, Arreaga was the first Cane to punch his ticket to NCAAs. Arreaga has now reached the outdoor championships for the third time in his career in the hammer throw.
Xavier Coakley was the first of three Canes to advance to Friday’s quarterfinal events on the track. The senior’s time of 13.83 finished third in his heat, giving him an automatic qualifying time to Friday’s heat.
Freshman Solomon Strader was one of three freshmen to qualify for the next round in the men’s 400m, running a personal best time of 46.49 seconds. Wednesday’s time improves his top-five mark in Miami history.
McKinly Brown was the final Cane to advance to the next round, finishing second in his heat in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 51.60 seconds.
Miami’s women will take the track tomorrow for the first time at the NCAA East Preliminaries.
