Golf in Eighth Through Two Rounds
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Miami golf team capped the first day of competition at the 2021 ACC Women’s Golf Championship sitting in a tie for eighth at 24-over, 600.
The Hurricanes enter Friday’s final round of competition 17 strokes behind No. 15 Virginia Tech for fourth, looking to earn a spot in Saturday’s match play semifinal.
Leading the way at the par 72, 6,089-yard Sedgefield Country Club is freshman Nataliya Guseva. Ranked No. 21 on golfstat.com, the Moscow native carded seven birdies through the opening 36 holes and sits in a tie for eighth at one-under-par.
Overall, she enters the final round six strokes back from the current tournament leader, Gina Kim of Duke.
Fellow freshman Sara Byrne rebounded with an even-par second round and sits in a tie for 26th at five-over-par.
Following closely behind, fourth-year junior Kristyna Frydlova carded five birdies on Thursday and is tied for 33rd at seven-over par.
Rounding out the Hurricanes lineup are Daniella Barrett (+13, 157) and Anna Backman (+18, 162) who respectively are tied for 49th and 55th.
