Golf Tees off at Gators Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami golf team teed off at the Gators Invitational presented by VyStar Credit Union Sunday morning and enter Monday’s second round of action in a tie for eighth at 16-over-par.
“The talent is here, we just haven’t put it together yet,” Miami head coach Patti Rizzo said. “Hopefully, this will be a slow start and great finish. No one is really at the top of their game right now. I think within time and the more we play, the better we will get. The long COVID break wore down their confidence, but we will get better. I am sure of it.”
Leading the way for the Hurricanes at the challenging Par-70, 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course, Nataliya Guseva registered a co-team-high two birdies to go one-under on the back nine.
Overall, the freshman finished two-over, 72 on the day and enters the second round tied for 12th.
Scoring four-over, Kristyna Frydlova enters the next round tied for 33rd, while Renate Grimstad and Daniella Barrett sit in a tie for 40th, both carding five-over-par.
Rounding out the Hurricanes lineup, Franziska Sliper sits in a tie for 72nd at 11-over-par.
On Monday, Miami will return to the greens at 8:30 a.m. for a shotgun start. The Hurricanes will tee off alongside student athletes from Ole Miss (7th, +13) and Georgia (T8th, +16).
