Swim / Dive Set for Greensboro, ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Miami Hurricanes swimming & diving team begins its run at the 2020 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Led by a talented group of upperclassmen, including three-time ACC champion diver David Dinsmore and swimming co-captains Claire McGinnis and Sydney Knapp, the Hurricanes will spend Feb. 19-22 competing at the Greensboro Aquatic Center against the conference’s elite.

“We’re looking forward to the meet as much as ever,” head swimming coach Andy Kershaw said. “We really feel like we put this team has put in a lot of work throughout the season, and they’ve really earned the right to have some celebratory moments.

“I know they’re very excited to do it as a group, knowing that some people are going to inspire others and that we’re going to catch some momentum.”

A three-time NCAA All-American, Dinsmore is looking to win his fourth straight ACC gold medal on the platform when he takes the boards in Greensboro, N.C.

A year ago, Dinsmore – along with men’s diver Briadam Herrera and women’s diver Alicia Blagg – captured five of the six gold medals at the event.

“I think we’re really excited to see what ‘The U’ can do,” Kershaw said. “We’re trying to get as many people in finals as we can, get some points and gain some momentum.”

McGinnis and Knapp lead a talented upperclassmen group of swimmers.

“We have great experience, great leadership and great poise there. With Claire and Manon [Viguier], you couldn’t ask for better seniors, and right behind them always having their back are four juniors, who will be pivotal for us. And as they have all year, I know our freshmen and sophomores will step up big.”

The Hurricanes swimming contingent is set up for a strong finish at the event, with many of Miami’s top events slated for the final two days of the meet.

“I really like the way this week is set up,” Kershaw said. “That’s what this team is about. It’s what we’ve been building on – finishing our races strong and always finishing strong.”

The Hurricanes’ trip to the ACC Swimming & Diving Championships will air on ACC Network Extra for most of the week. Action will run live from 5-8 p.m. on Feb. 20, 6-9 p.m. on Feb. 21 and 6-9 p.m. on Feb. 22.
