Grimstad Sits Atop Leaderboard at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. – Led by senior Renate Grimstad, the University of Miami golf team will enter Monday’s second round of competition of the UCF Challenge in second.

Competing at the Par 72, 6,349-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club, the Hurricanes carded a one-under 287 performance on Sunday and sit just five strokes back on the overall leader, No. 13 Michigan State.

“Renni is playing awesome. She looks confident and strong,” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “Overall, the team hung in there well today, but we could have been a lot better if our putts were dropping more. Looking forward to tomorrow.”

Grimstad paced the Hurricanes carding a six-under, 66 to sit in a tie for first alongside the Spartans’ Yurika Tanida.

Following a trio of par holes to kick start the event, the Bergen, Norway, native carded three birdies over a four-hole stretch to move to three-under. Overcoming her only set back on the par 3, 164-yard 11th hole, the senior tallied back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th.

Just one stroke back from the individual lead, Grimstad capped the day with her seventh birdie on the par-4, 346-yard second hole, to help lead the charge for the Canes.

Meanwhile, freshman Franziska Sliper opened the spring with a one-over 73 and sits in a tie for 29th, while junior Kristyna Frydlova and freshman Daniella Barrett each sit in a tie for 37th at two-over.

Rounding out the starting lineup, sophomore Anna Backman sits in a tie for 49th at three-over 75. Following closely behind, freshman Morgan Pankow sits in a tie for 73rd at six-over 78, while senior Macarena Aguilera is tied for 77th at seven-over-par.

Second round action is scheduled to begin Monday morning at 8:45 a.m. ET, with live results available HERE. Miami is set to tee off with Michigan State and third-ranked Kent State on Monday.
